Inside the puppet drawer

Three hundred puppets live in a set of old drawers behind the stage. Here are a few of our favourites.

An old wooden drawer full of black cut-out shadow puppets with brass joints and rods

Behind the stage stands a chest of eight drawers that used to hold maps. Now it holds every puppet we have ever made.

The first fox

The fox from our very first show is still in the top drawer. She has been repaired so many times that hardly any of the original card is left.

The five-metre wave

It doesn’t fit in a drawer. It lives rolled up on top of the chest and takes three people to unroll.

The spares

Every show has a spare of every puppet. A rod snaps about once a month, usually during the quietest scene.
